Petaloo - Not too Shabby Altered Art

Hi there, today I have a post on the Petaloo blog, and I am here to help you with some ideas to create during the summer.  Who said you can't start your Christmas crafting in the summer time, right?  As I thought about what to create to showcase the pretty Flora Doodles flowers, I thought it would be fun to alter a wooden frame, which I picked up at Michael's for a whole $1.  Than I happened to be at Target, where in their dollar bin I found this super fun shaped, but porcelain finished candle holder.  Truthfully not sure if I paid $1, or $2.50 for it, but seriously once I finished I didn't care how much it cost as it was totally worth the way it turned out.  Here is what my little ensemble looks like, and don't you think this would make a fabulous gift to give away?

Here are the basic items I used for creating the frame and the candle holder.  As I told you the candle holder was shiny porcelain finished, so I just took my white gesso and painted it with a foam brush, so I can alter the color of it.  I painted my frame with the gesso as well.  Once they dried I used Pan Pastels to color the frame and candle holder.  It's a new product to me and they have been sitting patiently waiting to be used, so I thought it would be fun to work with them.  And look at all those pretty Flora Doodles flowers!!!  They were just the perfect addition for a shabby design.

For my frame and also the candle holder once they were applied with the Pan Pastels I stamped over it with JustRite Papercrafts Shabby Music Background stamp and for my frame I also used a label stamp from their Ever After Antique Labels One.

And on this picture you can see all the pretty layering I did with several of the Flora Doodles flowers and a pretty May Arts Ribbon.

Here is an individual picture of my candle holder.

And here is a better picture of all the pretty Flora Doodles I used on this.  Such gorgeous flowers, aren't they?

Sure hope this inspires you a little for some crafting time.  Maybe just to make it for yourself, or give it to a girl friend, or a shower gift, or a Christmas gift?  Would love to hear who you would make something like this for, so please share!
